It seems that people all over the globe had shared a fervent hope that the US would turn the page on a man who hated and divided. So many of us thought that a more inclusive, wider perspective would be clearly seen as the better way forward. So now what?  Things could get much worse for many vulnerable people. And we might think about how we can each do something to counter that.

The other essential piece is caring for ourselves. One thing that has been quite helpful recently has been to trust my ability to be able experience and be with all of life; the good and the bad.  And in this way better know my place and role in the world.

I am suggesting a response; a willingness to just pause, which supports calming and relaxing. It is within that stillness that I experience myself infused with what I would describe as an essence, the intrinsic nature of our shared humanity. This essence is always waiting patiently for us – it manifests as love, displays itself as innate wisdom, presents itself as awareness, and declares itself as a vitality, a life force, an orientation towards healing.

In pausing and simply being, I can see how much of our unhappiness comes from attachments and aversions and delusions. When I can remember to rest inwardly as I go about my day,  and just be with things as they are in the present moment, then I have access to the wisdom of letting go, and a wholesomeness orientation that is always pointing towards peace.
